West Buncombe Elementary's literacy team is organizing an event named "Fall into Reading" to foster a love for reading among students. To achieve this objective, they are promoting creativity and encouraging students to read as many books as possible based on the monthly theme. In October, the school held a reading kick-off event on October 4th in the school gym. During the assembly, students were entertained with a poem titled "Apple Bobbing" and a thrilling apple bobbing contest that featured Mr. Johnson and Coach Swain. The event culminated with a teacher book relay that was incredibly exciting. Students laughed, cheered, and chanted the "Fall into Reading" slogan. After the event, they enjoyed apple cider while participating in a special read time in their classrooms. Additionally, Students have the opportunity to win daily book giveaways and are encouraged to read as much as possible.

The Buncombe County Schools Board of Education is committed to providing a safe, inviting, and civil educational environment for all students, employees, and other members of the school community. The Board expects all students, employees, volunteers, and visitors to behave in a manner consistent with that goal. The Board recognizes that bullying and harassing behavior creates an atmosphere of intimidation and fear, detracts from the safe environment necessary for student learning, and may lead to more serious misconduct or to violence. Accordingly, the Board prohibits all forms of bullying and harassing behavior, including encouragement of such behavior, by students, employees, volunteers, and visitors.
