BCS families and teammates, thank you for all of your efforts at home and in the community to recover from the devastation of the hurricane. Our hearts continue to be with you.
We want to let you know Buncombe County Schools will remain closed until it is safe to open. That will require power and water restored to our buildings. We are grateful to the repair crews who are working hard to make that happen. However, there is substantial work to be done. To help families plan, we will give you adequate notice when we know a date when it is safe for Buncombe County Schools to reopen.
Please continue to take care of yourself and your family. Our theme for this year is “Together We Rise” - and recovering for this storm will demonstrate that. Thank you so much!

Based on the Hurricane's tremendous impacts to our families and neighborhoods, the decision has been made to close all Buncombe County Schools for the entire week, Monday Sept. 30 through Friday Oct. 4. These will be annual leave days for staff. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, the school system is committed to continue supporting our families and staff. We hope you and your family continue to be safe. We'll continue to keep you updated as our team works to safely reopen our schools. Thank you.

As our area continues to cope with impacts of Hurricane Helene, Buncombe County Schools will be closed Mon 9/30 and Tue 10/1. Both days are annual leave days. As our school system continues working with local emergency management officials, we will keep you updated about schedules for the coming days. Please stay safe!

We couldn't be prouder of the students and staff here at West Buncombe. School Digger, a site that ranks schools across North Carolina, just came out with the new rankings. Love, high expectations, and all of us working to help kids grow are some of the things that make West Buncombe the best choice for your child.
Take a look:

Dear WBES families,
We'd LOVE to have you volunteer at WBES this year. Here are two great opportunities, and one of them you can do from home!
Our school participates in the Ingles Tools for Schools program. In the past, our families have been so supportive that we have received hundreds of dollar's worth of equipment and school supplies. The faster we get the returned Ingles numbers back and plugged into the Ingles database, the faster the money accumulates for us. Last year it took over a month to type in all the numbers and that was money missed out on. If you are a person who is willing to type info into a database (it's very easy) using your home computer - this volunteer job is for you!

Our other current volunteer opportunity is to work at our Scholastic Book Fair! This year it is the week of Sept. 23-27 with a set-up date on Friday the 20th. We'd LOVE to have you in our building!

Dear West Buncombe Elementary Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. As we prepare for the start of a new school year, we want to ensure a smooth and secure beginning for all our students.
On August 26th, the first day of school, we invite you to help your child bring in their supplies and settle in. We understand this transition can be significant, and we want to make it as smooth as possible for everyone.
For the remainder of the week, we will permit only kindergarten parents to walk their children to their classrooms. This measure helps us maintain a safe and orderly environment for all our students. After next week, we will be asking all parents to say goodbye at the school entrance to support our efforts in creating a secure and independent learning atmosphere.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to provide the best experience for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Warm regards,
Brad Johnson
