Tovar, Tsianina (ESL Teacher)

Welcome to ESL...

a scheduled time and place in the
day where English Language Learners develop and strengthen their English skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing through rigorous thematic      units taught in English.
My name is Tsianina Tovar, and I am from The Mile High City~Denver, Colorado. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Metropolitan State University of Denver and spent my senior year of college at the University of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. Learning a second language was always a goal of mine and was a great asset to have in my first career in business and finance. As my children began to attend public schools, and I became more involved in their education; the opportunity to work with other Native American youth and to coordinate my school district's Federal Indian Education Program began to lead me down a new path. After the birth of my fourth child, and as a mid-career professional, I decided to move to North Carolina and go back to school to earn my teaching certification in Spanish K-12 and English as a Second Language (ESL) K-12 through the NC Teach graduate program at Western Carolina University.

What a learning journey it has been...this is my 7th year teaching ESL at West Buncombe with a total of 16 years teaching ESL/Spanish in the high school, middle school and elementary school setting. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood/English as a New Language, a North Carolina Global Educator and a Buncombe County Schools Global Ambassador.

What a blessing it has been...our school has a beautiful blend of culturally and linguistically diverse students with home languages in Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Romanian, Japanese, Thai and Armenian. I am greeted daily by these beautiful, amazing, smiling children who LOVE to learn and whom I LOVE to teach!!!
