Family Engagement Plan

Family Engagement Plan

West Buncombe Elementary strives to create a working relationship between staff, community and families to better our children’s educational process. Our school will involve families in creating policies, plans, SIT decisions, etc. We look forward to contributing to our students’ well being in the following ways:

  • Administration, teachers, and parents sign a home and school leadership compact indicating their agreement to work together to ensure the success of all students.

  • In August, “Meet the Teacher” invites parents to bring their child to school to meet the new classroom teacher and learn expectations for the year.

  • Teachers communicate with parents through weekly/monthly newsletters about curriculum and events in the classroom.

  • Each nine weeks, teachers send report cards home to inform parents of their students’ academic and leadership progress.

  • Teachers schedule conferences with parents at least twice a year to share information concerning their child’s strengths and weaknesses as well as review WBES home and school leadership compact. The first conference should be held close to or after the completion of the first nine weeks to give teachers time to get to know students, try interventions, and gather data to share with parents.  If parents request an early conference, the request will be honored.  Phone conferences are held as needed and parents are encouraged to request a conference as needed.

  • An  Annual Meeting / Open House is held in the fall to inform parents of Title 1 policies.

  • In the spring, an informational meeting about EOG test taking strategies will be held for parents and students.

  • Parent workshops will be held throughout the school year relevant to parent needs and feedback from parent surveys sent home in the fall. Parents will also be invited in during the school day to help them become more engaged in their child’s education
