Dear Parents.

The warmer days lately have me wishing for an early spring. It sure has been a mild winter so far, but March can be very eventful when it comes to bad weather. March 10th is now a student day and no longer a teacher workday. I have an updated calendar on the back of this letter.

I am so proud of our Odyssey of the Mind Team. This weekend they competed in the Western Regional Competition and placed 2nd. They will be returning to defend their State Title in Greensboro on April 1st. I know they will make us proud and hopefully bring home another State Title!

With only 70 days of school left, we are in “Crunch Time” trying to make sure every child reaches his or her learning target. Please schedule a teacher conference with your child’s teacher to find out their progress so far and areas of focus for the rest of the school year. End of Grade Exams will be sometime in late May. Now is the time to start a good nightly routine that involves reading, writing, and a decent bedtime.

Our 5th Annual Auction was a huge success last week! It was a different format this year with a meal and several silent auction items with a live auction at the end.  We raised 8 thousand dollars for our students. We had the biggest turn out ever! Over 200 attendees enjoyed a great meal and a fun community night. Thank you to all who donated items and helped out at the event. It was a great night!

Our math night is scheduled for March 21st at 6:00. This should be a great informative night. Each grade level will share math standards and helpful hints for everyone. Please come out and join us. Refreshments will be served.

Safety is our number 1 priority and our Crisis Team is constantly working to improve the safety of our students. Later this week, we will have a practice drill with the entire school.

I always want to express how blessed I am to work at this wonderful school. I appreciate you letting us educate your child. My entire staff strives to make West Buncombe the best school in the world.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Brian Chandler
