Dear Parents.

We have finished 56 wonderful days of school. We only have 124 left! This year has been packed with great learning and fun. I am so proud of our students and staff.  We have accomplished a tremendous amount so far.

Our test scores were released in September and we were ranked among the top schools in Buncombe County. We received a B rating and met growth status again this year. Our school also had the second highest elementary math scores in Buncombe County. This is an amazing accomplishment!

West Buncombe is committed to excellent academic instruction. Math instruction at WBES is second to none! We are leading Buncombe County in several areas. I am amazed everyday at the complex mathematics our students are completing. We will be hosting a parent day just for Mathematics in January. Reading 3D measures student growth in reading across North Carolina. Our students have consistently scored in the top 5 schools in Buncombe County for grades K-2. You should be very proud of the quality of instruction at WBES.

Our Soaring Eagle Program will kick off next Tuesday! We will have Dr. Tony Baldwin speak to our students. He will encourage our students to strive for excellence and to never give up. We are looking forward to hearing our Superintendent. All parents are welcome to attend, but only one student per class will receive the honor of being Soaring Eagle.

Our behavior system (PBIS) is going great. Our students are behaving and learning. We are proud to announce that we just recently received the honor of PBIS Exemplar School. This is the highest accomplishment in school behavior and only a few schools across the state have received this honor.

I have filled this letter with many great accomplishments our school has made, but the biggest accomplishment is the CARE your child receives at WBES. In my 23 years of education, I can honestly say that West Buncombe Elementary is the best school I have ever worked in! The caring atmosphere and the community support is overwhelming. What a wonderful place for a child to attend school!

In closing, I want to wish you and your family Happy Holidays. I am so blessed to be a part of this fine school! Please enjoy and spend some quality time with your child. They are truly a gift.

Sincerely,

Brian Chandler, Principal
