Dear Parents,

Safety is always at the forefront of our thoughts and plans for our school. We have decided to adjust a few things to make our school safer. Attached to this letter are two parent cards for you to use to enter our building before 7:50 each morning. The cards can only be used during car rider drop off times. All other times, you must enter the building through the front office doors. Also, if you do not have one of these cards and you need to enter the building before 7:50 a.m. you will be asked to walk around our building and check in at the main office. We feel that this will allow us to ensure that only West Buncombe Families are entering our building. So please place your new parent card in a safe place that you can easily retrieve when you need to visit our school before 7:50.

Over the past two weeks I have visited every classroom and gave my “Buckle Down” speech. I have asked the students to focus on the “3 B’s” for the next 61 days of school. The students will be focusing on: 1. Be here. 2. Behave. 3. Buckle Down. With only 61 days of school left and End of Grade Exams looming, it is crucial that every student demonstrate the 3 B’s. Please help me reinforce these 3 qualities as we approach the end of the year.

Our Odyssey of the Mind team qualified for the State Tournament again this year. On March 24th, they will compete at Wingate College to try to win 3 State Championships in a row. I am very proud of this team.

We have already started preparing for next year. We are currently registering new Kindergartners. If you have a child who will be 5 years old before August 31st, please call the school and register your child. Kindergarten Registration is May 4th and “Kindergarten Here I Come Night” is April 24th at 5:30 p.m.

I am excited to announce that next year we will have our first Dual Language Classroom. This will be a Kindergarten Classroom that will be taught entirely in Spanish. Half of the students will be English speakers and the other half will be Spanish speakers. This group of students will continue as a cohort through this program until the 6th grade. The research that supports this endeavor is remarkable. If you would like to learn more about this program, please attend Kindergarten Here I Come Night on April 24th.
Spring Break is quickly approaching. We will be out of school April 2nd through the 6th. Please take time to rest and enjoy your family.
